Royals lose Coco Crisp for Year

The Royals announced some more disappointing news as they have announced that starting center fielder Coco Crisp will have season ending surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Crisp, 29, was the Royals key offseason addition this year and cost them reliever Ramón Ramirez (who by the way has a sub 2.00 era with Boston right now) only lasted 41 games with the Royals this year and may never take another at-bat for the Royals again. Crisp who has an option on his contract for 2010 of 8 million a year, also has a buy-out of only $500,000 if he was released.

It would be foolish for the Royals to invest 8 million in a player with serious health worries now coming off season ending surgery.  The deal for Crisp has now already put a dent in the Royals ability to have an every day center fielder as well as a proven above average base runner.  Throw in the fact the Royals gave up thier key set-up man in Ramirez to get Crisp, the Royals are in far worse shape now than they were last year.
